2008 User's Conference Updates

We're still two months away, and already this year's Cascade Server User's Conference is shaping up to be bigger and better than the previous two years! This annual event is going to be packed with two full days of introductory end-user sessions, in-depth technical discussions, and client-led sessions. As a new addition to the 2008 conference experience, we've added the conference session sign-up, which allows attendees to pick and choose which sessions they would like to attend, without being tied to a particular track, business or technical.  Unfortunately, with the July 15th registration deadline behind us, we can now only guarantee the day rate admission of $350, and offer recommendations for alternate lodging in the area.  However, we do still have ONE room left at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, available on a first-come first-served basis. So, if you are interested in attending the conference and having onsite accommodations, register now to reserve the last room!

Cascade Server 5.5 Release

Earlier this month, Hannon Hill proudly announced the newest 5 Series release, Cascade Server 5.5.  Boasting important new features such as Content Types, Customizable Roles, and new user preferences, 5.5 is focused on streamlining the overall user experience for end-users and system administrators.  The new Content Types feature provides administrators with the ability to aggregate configuration sets, metadata sets, and data definitions into one component that can then be applied to a page, allowing users to easily identify which predefined type to apply to a particular page of content. The Customizable Roles feature is another important addition in the 5.5 release that enables administrators to change the default capabilities in areas such as Administration, Security, Home Area, Publishing, and Workflows.  In addition, we've also incorporated new user preferences into this release, including the ability to specify whether or not the left navigation asset tree will appear by default upon login, and allowing users with the ability to bypass workflows to specify whether or not those workflows will be bypassed by default.

Universities Use Cascade to Manage Emergency Content

Managing and publicizing content during emergency situations is critically important, and recently at Hannon Hill, we've noticed that using Cascade Server to power emergency alert systems is an emerging trend among our higher education clients.  Cascade Server provides numerous ways to assist colleges or universities in keeping their community informed during emergency settings on campus.  Whether the emergency is a major one, requiring immediate attention, or a minor alert, such as a road closing, Cascade offers many solutions for institutions of higher education to communicate with their constituents.  For example, Cascade offers the ability to create and publish alternate versions of emergency content, and the ability to send announcements via SMS message by publishing RSS data from the school's emergency RSS feed to a third-party SMS provider that would then send any updates from that feed directly to the subscribers' cell phones.  Alerts such as these assist in providing an increased sense of awareness and security among students, faculty, staff, and parents.
