If you're new to the re-designed Knowledge Base, or would like an overview of how it's structured, please view our video: "Using the Knowledge Base."

Knowledge Base Entry Points

There are several ways in which you view content in Cascade Server’s new Knowledge Base:

KB Index Page

This serves as the Knowledge Base’s homepage.

KB Help Index Page

The Index Page allows you to choose the level of content you’d like to view, from these three tracks:

o    Digest – This is where you’ll find basic information about each item in the Knowledge Base.

o    Concept – Once you’ve got the basics down, the Concept section can provide you with a more in-depth explanation of each item.

o    Technical – If you’re serious about a particular concept in Cascade, here’s where you’ll go for step-by-step instructions for creating items from scratch, writing code, setting up processes, and other advanced info and resources.

If you click on an item under one of these three sections (or if you click on a link such as “Start at the Digest Level”), a cookie will be set that will keep you on that track for the rest of your visit to the Knowledge Base.  If you click on ‘What is a User?’ under the Digest section of the homepage, you’ll be taken to the Digest section of the ‘User’ page, with the Concept and Technical sections collapsed.

If you want to view more info on a User, or any topic for that matter, you can always expand and collapse the concept and technical sections to see more or less information, regardless of your cookie and learning level setting. Doing so will not change your cookie setting. It will simply allow you to see more information on that specific topic.

For example, if you clicked on ‘Role’, you’ll be taken to the Digest section of the ‘Role’ page even though you had expanded additional sections on the User page.

If you click on a related action under Role, like Setting Up System Users, you will be taken directly to that action, which falls under the Technical section of the ‘Role’ page.

If you ever want to change your cookie setting and view content at a different Learning Level, simply click "KB Home" in the top right corner of the screen to navigate back to the Knowledge Base Index page, and select a new Learning Level through which to view content.

KB Site Index

As all content is organized by concept name, this a simple way to view all concepts in alphabetical order. Each concept name is an active link to the page's content in-full.

KB Glossary

This lists all main concepts discussed in the Knowledge Base; each concept’s name is an active link to the concept’s page in-full.

KB Search

The Knowledge Base utilizes Google Custom Search, which is located towards the top left corner, just below the top navigation bar on every page in the Knowledge Base.

Topic Pages

Digest, Concept, and Technical

On each topic’s page, you’ll see the three sections – Digest, Concept, and Technical – plus one more, Related Links.(Occasionally, if a topic is relatively straightforward, it may not have a Concept or Technical section). Each of the sections is collapsible, so you can choose which ones to view at any time. For instance, if you’re brand new to a topic (assets, for example), you’ll want to view the Digest section all by itself.

Assets page w/ Digest expanded,

Then, if you’ve got the basics down, but aren’t quite ready for the heavy stuff, you can view the Concept section while the Digest and Technical sections are both hidden.

Assets page w/ Concept expanded

Once you fully understand what Assets are and what they do, you’ll be ready to create one.  In that case, you can hide the Digest and Concept sections, and view the Technical section by itself.

Assets page w/ Technical expanded

These collapsible and expandable sections are featured on every topic in Cascade, and can also be used in other combinations than the ones shown here: all collapsed, all expanded, Digest and Concept expanded with Technical collapsed, Concept and Technical expanded with Digest collapsed, etc.

Technical References

At the end of the Technical section on topic pages, users may find a section of technical references (the title is specific to the name of the topic -- i.e. on the Workflow page, the section is entitled 'Workflow References').  They contain links to other concepts, articles, instructions, or videos that specifically relate to the technical aspects of the current page's topic.

Related Links, Related Actions, and Videos

Related Links, Related Actions, and Videos are supplementary sections found below the Digest, Concept, and Technical sections. The Related Links section is a list of other topics in the Knowledge Base that were either discussed on the current topic’s page, or are otherwise related in some way to that topic.Related Actions works in much the same way; however, if you’ve already got some knowledge of the topic being linked to, a Related Actions link will take you straight to the Technical section of that topic’s page, so you can get right down to work. Below the Related Links and Related Actions, you'll find a listing of any videos that relate to the page's topic; clicking these links will take you directly to the video.

FAQs

In the Cascade Server Knowledge Base, we’ve made all of our FAQs available on one central index page:

FAQ page

…and we’ve also placed them on the individual pages of the topic that they directly relate to:

Assets page w/ FAQ highlighted

In addition to all of the FAQs that are directly related to particular concepts (and found on their respective pages), there are also a few that are more general in nature and may not directly relate to a particular concept, so we put them in their own section on the FAQ index page.

FAQ sections w/ highlighted

FAQ answers can be expanded and collapsed as you see fit. By default, they will all appear collapsed when you first enter the FAQ index page.

Announcements

To the left of your screen, you will see an orange notification box titled, "Announcements." In this area, you can find the most recent Cascade Server-related announcements from the Hannon Hill team. These announcements can range from release notes, to bug fixes and the like.
