Digest

Messages are sent to users by other users, as well as from the CMS, and take a number of forms, including informative reports and requests that the user perform a specific task. They are viewable from the "Messages" tab on the dashboard.

Concept

Introduction to Messages

All Messages are viewable from the “Messages” tab on the dashboard. From your Dashboard, you have two options for viewing your messages. You can select the Messages tab and click the link that will direct you to the message “My First Message,” or you can go to the My Messages sub-section of Outstanding Items and select the message “My First Message."

Some of the most common messages are:

  1. Workflow Notifications - Sent by the CMS when a workflow enters a specific stage or is completed, these messages are essential to the proper flow of work between users in the CMS.

  2. Publish Reports - Sent following a publish job, these reports detail the successful and un-successful components of a publish, summarizing jobs that succeeded, failed or were skipped and reporting broken links.

  3. User Created Messages - Users also have the option of creating a message via the 'New' menu, which they may send to any user or group within the CMS. They may contain any content a user might normally be able to insert into a WYSIWYG field.

Workflow Messages in Cascade Server

Workflow notifications may be received in three different ways, and can be customized according to each user’s personal preferences. Upon login, users are greeted by a personalized dashboard, displaying any pending workflows. This dashboard acts as a home screen, and is easily accessible at all times while working inside Cascade Server. In addition, users and groups can be notified via email. Direct actions can be made from within the email via personalized hyperlinks to the system.

A unique feature of Cascade Server is the dashboard RSS feed. Users wanting immediate notification, but who do not want to clutter up their email inboxes can opt for an RSS feed, accessible through any standard RSS reader, listing all relevant workflows as they are generated. RSS entries hyperlink to the specific actions in the system.
