Hannon Hill Gives Back
By Kat Liendgens
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 at 3:00pm
At Hannon Hill, we pride ourselves in how much each one of our team members cares about our product, our clients, and our company. Another part of our company culture that makes us work so well together as a team is that we share the common goal of giving back to the community. For instance, last year we volunteered with Junior Achievement of Georgia, where we taught career skills to students at a local school. On another occasion we were able to assist with a Community Gardens Project through the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Most recently, we had the privilege of spending a wonderful afternoon with the kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. All of those events were very rewarding for us, and we look forward to additional events this year.
We are thankful to be part of a company that truly cares about people. Today, we are excited to announce a new initiative that we hope will benefit a worthy cause through the use of our product and our team. We will give an unlimited user license of Cascade Server to a non-profit charity organization yet to be determined. In addition to the software, we will include free maintenance and support, training, and a QuickStart integration. As we are reaching out to charities which might be a good fit from a technology and staff perspective, we would love to hear our clients’ ideas and suggestions. If you have a candidate in mind that you would like to nominate, please contact us before March 31, 2011. We look forward to your suggestions and appreciate your support.

A Change To Our Idea Exchange Voting Structure
By Chris Armistead
Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 at 11:30am
Hannon Hill is excited to announce a change to the voting structure on our Idea Exchange. Previously, individual users were limited to a total of ten votes (with the creation of a new idea requiring a minimum of one vote). Some of our customers informed us that the voting restrictions had left them unable to post their new suggestions or vote up others they felt were important, so we’ve decided to remove the limitation on the number of votes.
Everyone now has an unlimited number of votes, thus allowing all users to create and vote upon as many ideas as they wish. While we want to reiterate that the features we implement are not directly tied to the number of votes it receives, our developers keep a close eye on our Idea Exchange, and the ideas you provide are given strong consideration for inclusion in the Cascade Server road map. So if you haven’t been to ideas.hannonhill.com recently because you’ve used up all your votes, we encourage you to give it another visit. We want to hear your ideas and see your votes for product ideas, so let us know what you think!

Why We Value Transparency At Hannon Hill
By Kat Liendgens
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 at 9:00am
Whether you are already a client of ours or just browsing our site as you are researching different content management systems, you’ll notice that we share a lot of information with you right off the bat. For instance, you can find one of our most comprehensive resources, our Knowledge Base. Simply do a keyword search, and you’ll be presented with an array of videos, tutorials, and conceptual and technical explanations. Our help forum at help.hannonhill.com is a place where clients can search for articles and posts, ask questions, and participate in discussions. Questions are answered by Hannon Hill team members from various departments (such as Services, Support, and Engineering) and by members of the Cascade Server user community. We invite you to browse the forum, even if you don’t have an account.
We offer people this level of access not due to an oversight in our security model, but because of our philosophy of transparency at Hannon Hill. It is our goal to show you what Cascade Server has to offer and how it works before you decide to become a customer -- even before we ask you for any personal information at all.
As a Cascade Server user, you’ll experience an extension of this philosophy of openness and community. Not only do we encourage users to share their code for specific scenarios, but we also make many of our own examples available for download on our GITHUB repository. Our Services team is not stingy when it comes to code-sharing! We have already put several XSLT and Velocity examples, as well as a Publish Trigger and Web Services projects, into our repository. Feel free to create your own GITHUB account and check out our examples. If you have a custom plug-in, a workflow, or a script that would help others, we’d love for you to share it with the Cascade Server community as well.
We pride ourselves in the environment of transparency that we’ve cultivated over the years, not to mention the ever-increasing degree of collaboration and communication within the Cascade Server community. I would like to take this opportunity to give a plug to the Hi-Ed Listserv, which is a forum dedicated to and maintained by the Higher Education community of Cascade Server users. The listserv is a great resource for exchanging useful tips and comparing notes with other users. Please note that this list is not maintained by Hannon Hill, but by our Hi-Ed user community. We do, however, read each post and frequently contribute to discussions.
Finally, I can’t stress enough how important it is to us to hear our customers’ feedback on the Cascade Server user experience, and we’re always looking for suggestions on how to improve our product. Our idea exchange provides a space in which customers and Hannon Hill team members can discuss their ideas and wish-lists, and participants are encouraged to “vote up” the features that are most important to them. As you may know, several features that have appeared in new iterations of the Cascade Server product, such as the Recycle Bin and Parallel Publishing, started out as popular suggestions on our forum.
We look forward to hearing from you, working with you, and continuing to grow the Cascade Server community.
