eduWeb Conference 2011

By Holly Wright
Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at 1:30pm

For several years, we have been honored to attend the eduWeb Conference to catch up with current clients in person and engage with the rest of the higher ed community. We are excited that we will be attending eduWeb again next week (August 1st-3rd) in San Antonio! We are also proud to be sponsoring the Tuesday Lunch and Awards Ceremony and hope to see many of you there.

To borrow from its website, eduWeb is an annual, internationally recognized event for the higher education community. It is beneficial to a range of people in the industry, especially those who are involved in online strategy, marketing and technology. All administrative departments now have to strategically communicate through their online presence to their external and internal audiences. This conference focuses on digital communications strategies, which is why we find it to be such a great fit for us to discuss Cascade Server!

We have done a lot of preparation for this year's event--working up new brochures, planning demos for our table, and shipping off all the swag to give out! I don't want to take any of the suspense away but there's a really strong possibility that we'll be giving away some of our famous Cascade Water Bottles!! (If you're not sure whether or not you need one, check out the many aesthetic features and versatile functionality of the bottle!)

Please remember to stop by Table 14 to visit with us, learn about some new Cascade features and pick up some exciting swag--and bring your friends, too!

User Conference Giveaway!

By Holly Wright
Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 5:00pm

In the name of transparency, I'm just going to say it--we want to use you to gain more signups for this year's User Conference. We think every single one of our clients would benefit from the User Conference, so we are doing everything we can to spread the word and get you there! That's why we're sponsoring a giveaway to reward you for helping us!!

Here's how it works: YOU sign up for User Conference by Friday, August 5th and tweet about it using our hashtag (#csuc11) and including a link to this post, and WE will enter you into a drawing to win a free half-day of training* for your organization--a $1,000 value! So what should you tweet? How about the speaker session that you're most excited about, a photo or your favorite memory from last year, the best new feature of the User Conference in your opinion, or the reason you decided to sign up this year?

Don't worry--you can still play even if you've already signed up! Anyone who signed up before today will be eligible to win, so long as you do the second part (tweeting about it with #csuc11 and a link to this page) between today and August 5th.

To recap, you will be entered to win free training if you:
  1. Are signed up for User Conference by August 5th (regardless of whether you signed up before today or not),
  2. Tweet something interesting about User Conference between today and August 5th, AND
  3. Include our #csuc11 hashtag and a link to this page in your tweet.

Have questions? Please email us at info@hannonhill.com. Happy tweeting and good luck!!

*Training must be scheduled at least 30 days in advance and within a year of the 2011 User Conference, and it will be conducted remotely via GoToMeeting.

Cascade Server Communication Channels

By Kat Liendgens
Thursday, July 14th, 2011 at 11:30am

As I mentioned in one of my previous blog posts, we believe in transparency and ample access to information. That’s why we make our knowledge base and our help forum available to anyone, regardless of whether they are a customer or not. It’s also important to us that our customers have multiple channels to reach us. You may want to know the best channels to choose depending on your needs, so I thought it would be a good idea to discuss specific situations and the most optimal way to reach us in each one.

Here are some scenarios:
  • You have a support request. If you need technical support, please send an email to our support team (support at hannonhill.com), so that a ticket is filed automatically, and we can address the request quickly. Support requests include questions about upgrades, database backups, memory issues, etc. Our support team is always happy to help you troubleshoot your issues.
  • You need advice. If you have a question about how to use a specific feature or about best practices, our help forum is the place to post it. Members from our support team, our services team, and our engineers are available to answer your questions. In addition, other Cascade Server users frequently contribute to the discussions, so it’s a true community effort. One of the most frequently used discussion categories is “How do I...”, which covers all aspects of product usage.
  • You’ve found a bug in the system. We created a bug report section on our help forum for users to submit possible bug reports. This is also where our support team and our engineers respond to our customers’ submissions. Furthermore, users can track (“watch”) the discussion as well as comment on it. This way, everybody who has a special interest in a particular bug can keep an eye on the thread.
  • You have a feature request for Cascade Server. As many of you know, we are always interested in hearing your ideas. Our idea exchange is where you can post your suggestions and vote on other customers’ ideas. The idea exchange continues to play a significant part in our product roadmap discussions, and many features that had been requested on the forum have made it into the product.
  • You need training or professional services. If you have a training request or would like our services team to help you with specific integration projects or audits, please contact us via the form on the Training page. Our services team is looking forward to working with you.

Do you have any questions about the different communication channels and scenarios? If you do, please feel free to comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Cassies Awards Nominations Are Now Open

By Holly Wright
Monday, July 11th, 2011 at 12:00pm

At this year's User Conference, we will introduce our new awards ceremony in order to recognize those people who have truly embraced our Web CMS product and gone above and beyond the call of duty in using Cascade Server. In the style of Dunder-Mifflin, we have dubbed the awards: The Cassies!

Thank you for taking the time to submit your category suggestions. We have selected the following categories for this first year (plus at least one or two surprise categories that we will obviously have to vote for internally). Winners will include Hannon Hill clients and employees, and the awards below will be nominated and voted on by both clients and employees:

  1. Most creative use of Cascade Server - What is the most innovative functionality that your organization has implemented using Cascade Server?
  1. Best new site powered by Cascade Server - Has your organization rolled out a new Cascade-powered website over the last twelve months? What makes it unique?
  1. Customer MVP: Most helpful non-Hannon Hiller to assist other clients - Our Cascade user community is awesome, and many of our clients frequently jump on our help forum to assist other customers. Who has been the most valuable player on the help forum? Who has shared great code examples and given advice on the high-ed listserv?
  1. Hannon Hill MVP: Most helpful Hannon Hiller - Which Hannon Hill team member has provided the best customer service?
  1. Lightening Bolt Award - How quickly did your company roll out Cascade Server to your users?
  1. Biggest Fan of Cascade Server - Which client has been Hannon Hill’s biggest cheerleader, giving testimonials, referrals and webinars?
  2. Early Adopter - Which client has had the best integration of a new Cascade Server feature or a partial site upgrade that best showcases the functionality of Cascade Server?

To submit your nominations, please email Chris Armistead info@hannonhill.com by July 29th. Voting will take place anonymously via a survey in August, and remember, we have no objection to our clients tooting their own horn. In other words, feel free to nominate yourself! You can stay connected to all the Cassies Awards and User Conference updates by following us on twitter (@hannon_hill and #csuc11) and joining the Cascade Server User Group on LinkedIn.

If you haven’t yet signed up for User Conference, please click here to do so today! (Please note: the Cassies awards will not look like the below--I just couldn't resist the temptation to add a visual in all my excitement! :)

The Cascade Firefox Extension Goes Native

By Bradley Wagner
Tuesday, July 5th, 2011 at 10:00am

The Firefox Extension

Our popular Cascade Server Firefox Extension saves users time by allowing them to quickly navigate to actions for assets without navigating to view the asset first.

We introduced the Cascade Server Firefox Extension a little more than 3 years ago. It’s had over 2800 downloads and been a staple for many of our clients and members of our own services team who work in Cascade every day.

The New Context Menu

A lot has changed in the browser world since 2008 including the rise of Google Chrome and Apple’s revamped Safari browser. To keep pace with the rapid browser development and to give people flexibility when choosing a browser, we added most of the Firefox extension’s functionality directly into Cascade 6.8 as the Context Menu.

Now, every asset link has a dropdown menu that appears when you hover your mouse near the link allowing you to quickly act on that asset. It's available pretty much everywhere including with links to administration area components:

context menu for admin components

and home area assets in the left-hand navigation:

context menu

These are the same actions that your user would have access to if they were to navigate directly to the asset:

context menu asset tabs

The best part is that the Context Menu works in any browser now and will continue working with future browser updates.

If you haven’t used our Firefox extension before, you’ve got to check this out in Cascade 6.8 -- it’s a huge timesaver. If you’ve used the Firefox extension and have been thinking about switching to Chrome, you’re in luck!

The Context Menu is part of our continued effort to make Cascade’s interface richer and more user-friendly. Stop by our help community and leave us feedback, questions, or comments.

Happy browsing!
