How to Make Friends at the User Conference
Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 at 9:00am -- Holly Wright
In just FOUR days, we’ll kick off our Cascade Server User Conference with a Welcome Reception at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center Club Room, followed by several other events and games to help facilitate networking between attendees. We know how helpful it is to have other Cascade Server users that you can turn to when you have questions or want to share something cool! So we made it a goal to help you meet each other. In addition to our two evening events (check out my previous post, Provisions and Pleasantries Play a Part at the 2012 User Conference), we’re going to have a few other extremely fun things at the conference to help you make friends with other Cascade Server clients.
What is SCVNGR? SCVNGR is a game in which you do challenges and earn points. Many colleges and universities already use it for new student orientation and other activities, but it’s also a great tool for our purposes! We’ve created a game in which you will earn points for answering questions, meeting attendees (remember those interesting facts we collected during registration?), taking photos and generally being fully engaged at the conference.
The best part? Beacon Technologies has generously sponsored a prize for the game. Anyone who earns at least 50 points by noon on Tuesday of the conference will be entered into a drawing for a brand new Nexus 7! The game won’t be available until the conference, but you can go ahead and download the SCVNGR app on your smart phone to be as prepared as possible.
I’ve always known that we have a whole lot of smarty pants among our clients, and now you have a chance to show off just how smart you are--when it comes to Hannon Hill knowledge! When you check in at the conference, you’ll have an opportunity to sign up for a trivia team. At the end of the day on Tuesday, we’ll host the team trivia tournament. If you want to do a little research before the conference, I would recommend perusing the blog archives and brushing up on some pages in the knowledge base.
Want a head start? We’ll tweet out one of the trivia answers in advance of the conference. It could be any time between today and the start of the conference, so if you aren’t already following us, you might want to start now...
Speaking of Twitter, don’t forget about the backchannel of the conference. You can use our conference hashtag #csuc12 to exchange thoughts about the sessions, ask questions, engage the speakers or reach the conference staff easily. Tweeting during the conference is a great way to meet others that share similar interests. We’re also featuring a Twitter directory in the back of the conference program for the first time. If you’re one of the 35 attendees who gave us your handle during the registration process, we’ve made it available to other attendees to make it easy to match a handle to a person!
If you’ve never tweeted before, this conference is the perfect opportunity to get started on the social network. REALLY! If you’re not keeping up with the tweets during a conference, you are missing out on a significant portion of the ideas being exchanged. It’s so easy to sign up, and once you get started, you’ll see how much fun it is!
So, get ready for the best User Conference yet! The opportunities for making connections are limitless if you take advantage of all that we’re offering this year. We’ll see you soon!
