If You Build It, They Will Come: Implementing Cascade Server at the University of Western Ontario

Judy Steward, Team Leader - ITS Customer Support Centre, University of Western Ontario

In the fall of 2008, Information Technology Services at the University of Western Ontario began searching for a Web Content Management System to simplify the updating of their web content. By December 2009, Hannon Hill’s Cascade Server was chosen.

Implementation began in the spring of 2009 and with the help of Hannon Hill's Quick Start program, use of Cascade Server was being offered to any faculty or department that wished to design web sites using a standard Western look and feel. By the spring of 2010, the university was able to extend the use of Cascade Server to sites that did not wish to use this standard look and feel.

This presentation will discuss why the University of Western Ontario chose a commercial package rather than open source solution, the success they've had, their experiences migrating from the Global Area to Sites, and some of the challenges they're experiencing in deploying the service in a decentralized IT environment.
