Integrating Web and Application Development: the Brandeis Faculty Guide Project

Ian Rifkin, Software Systems Administrator, Brandeis University

Brandeis University has been a customer of Hannon Hill for approximately 4 years (since Cascade Server 4.0). Over time Brandeis has migrated much of the Brandeis Web presence into the CMS. Simultaneously, the unversity has improved their software development practices, though these have been kept separate from the CMS. What happens when the two areas intersect?

During this presentation, Ian Rifkin from the office of Library and Technology Services will talk about his experience creating University-wide, school- and department-specific faculty guides which integrate faculty information maintained in the systems of record (PeopleSoft) with static content and design maintained in the CMS. Rifkin will discuss the architecture and operation of the application development framework, including a look at how faculty guides are defined within the CMS, how users republish them, and the straightforward process for rolling out new departmental guides.
