WHAT’S NEW WITH HANNON HILL?

eLearning Takes a “Quantum” Leap into the Future
Quantum eLearning™ born from Hannon Hill/echo11media partnership

ATLANTA, GA—Fusing the versatility of Cascade Server with the power of eLearning, Hannon Hill formally announces its newest partnership with echo11media, an expert e-learning, to create Quantum eLearning™.

“I've been working since the late 80's to create an eLearning solution that separates content from its presentation and function. With the partnership of echo11media and Hannon Hill, Quantum eLearning™ is now a reality,” said Steve Riley, President/CEO of echo11media.

Learning organizations have typically selected paths that entangle their content assets and structure in technology creating static learning experiences that are difficult to maintain and update. With today’s rapid changes in technology, these companies are also experiencing expensive content migration issues essentially neutralizing their projected returns.

Enhanced System Elements

1. Dashboard Enhancements

The dashboard has received numerous cosmetic and usability improvements. The screen real estate has been consolidated and optimized, giving the user quick access to the most important information first, without unnecessary clutter. Users also may now select and manipulate multiple system messages and completed workflows.

2. Keyword Chooser Interface

An Administrator may now create a list of System Keywords, using a brand new chooser interface. These keywords will be available to content Contributors when creating new Pages, Blocks, Files, or Folders. The user creating these assets may choose to select any number of System keywords, as well as add new keywords specifically for this asset. This framework helps maintain
keyword metadata consistency across the potentially large number of managed assets.

3. Enhanced Folder Access Rights Interface

Folder access rights may now be manipulated for a subset of system groups (previously access rights were modified for all groups at the same time).

4. In-line File Asset Editing

For specific file asset extensions (e.g. .html, .asp, .css) that are specified as a new option in the System Options, those assets are now directly editable from within the Cascade Server administration interface. This dramatically reduces the time-to-site overhead associated with making changes to CSS files, ASP includes, and any other support files managed within Cascade Server.

5. Increased User Security Controls

The System Administrator now has the ability to control the duration of user sessions. This improves security by letting the Administrator tune how long a user may be idle before the system logs the user out automatically.

6. Increased usability for Asset Factories and Recent Items

The Asset Factory and Recent Items lists at the top of the administration interface now include icons for each list item. This makes it very easy to find, say, the last folder you had visited in the Recent Items list.

7. Enhanced Page Layout View (Access Rights)

The Page asset view now will only show edit links for the page regions' blocks and stylesheets if that user viewing the page has edit access rights for those assets. This streamlines the interface for the content contributor that typically has reduced asset edit permissions.

8. Improved PDF and XML rendering time

The PDF asd XML rendering pipelines have been optimized within the administration interface.

9. Enhanced Audit Trail Reporting

Audits are now recorded when restoring a previous version of an asset.

10. New Examples and Includes

We have enhanced examples built for outputting to Adobe InDesign, event calendars, and slide shows as well as a new date formatting JavaScript example.

NOTABLE QUOTABLES

"You have only a few seconds to get compelling content onto the screen. Fail, and you can kiss your customers and profits goodbye.”

“Content is the fuel that keeps your business running. Deciding where that content resides is crucial.”

INDUSTRY NEWS

Intranets are Where Content Rules

Excerpt taken from Does Your Intranet Have a Win-Win Strategy? by Martin White
E-Content Magazine, March 18, 2004
“Ultimately, however, the general consensus was that the focus of a successful intranet must be on content. No matter what is being offered—in the form of competitions, feedback, or neat applications—if employees can't find the information they need and also can't trust the information to be correct and current, then all that the other features might do is highlight the given intranet's deficiencies.”

Content is a Collaborative Effort

Excerpt taken from Putting Collaboration in Context, by Dan Ryan
AIM E-Doc Magazine, September/October 2003

“Effective collaboration can improve employee productivity, speed decision-making processes, and create distinct competitive advantages. Content management systems are increasingly helping companies reap these benefits by facilitating in-context interactions between various systems used in collaboration, such as an email program, word processing application, or Web browser. This way, collaborators can create and edit content using the applications they prefer and share it with others through a Web-based, collaborative environment provided by the content management system.”
