Great websites guide visitors to the content they need and helps them discover new content they may want. Cascade CMS 8.9 introduces a new way to serve site visitors related content using customizable Content Tags.
What is a Content Tag?
Content Tags are a new way to classify content in Cascade CMS. This flexible new feature allows users to create custom tags for Assets that makes the most sense for them and their organization. They can choose terms that resonate with readers, organize content by author, or select any other approach that enables content discovery.
How Do Content Tags Work?
After related content is tagged, site managers can use built-in tools to create indexes for content that share common tags. These pages can help visitors discover new content that they would have missed otherwise.
Here’s how it looks in Cascade CMS:
To add tags to content:
- Click Edit.
- In the Content tab, scroll to the Tags field.
- Select existing tags to apply to your content or create new tags by typing your tag and selecting Add.
- Click Save & Preview and Submit.
Tags created when editing content will become site tags (see below) and will be immediately available for all users on the same site.
How Do Content Tags Differ from Categories?
Cascade CMS users can already classify content using Metadata and Data Definition fields. This approach, however, requires custom configuration and has limited flexibility. Using Metadata or Data Definition fields to organize content forces contributors to choose from existing tags to classify content. The new Content Tag feature offers built-in customization capabilities that allow users to describe content more accurately.
For example, instead of simply categorizing an Asset as marketing, a contributor could specify content strategy, so readers know exactly what to expect from linked material. More specific content tagging supports engagement, builds trust, and demonstrates your commitment to delivering value.
How Do I Start Using Content Tags?
Using Content Tags to help enable content discovery is easy. All you have to do is upgrade to Cascade CMS 8.9. Then, work with your team to determine how this feature fits into your content strategy. While Content Tags help readers discover new content, as we've discussed, they can also function as an internal classification tool to help you and your team better track your work.
Before going live with Content Tags, determine how they will function on your site and who will manage them. While customization is a central benefit of using Content Tags, they must be carefully managed to ensure their proper use. Site managers may consider reviewing Content Tags ahead of publishing and perform regular audits to optimize their performance.
