To find the Java installation your Cascade CMS instance is using, check the boot script for your environment.

## Linux, *nix, and macOS

1. Navigate to the Cascade CMS installation directory.
1. View or edit the *cascade.sh* file.
1. Find the `JRE_HOME` variable on the top line, for example:

```bash
export JRE_HOME="/usr/local/java/jre"
```

## Windows, running as a service

1. Navigate to the Cascade CMS installation directory.
1. Right-click *tomcat/bin/CascadeCMSw.exe* and select **Run as Administrator**.
1. Click the **Java** tab.
1. Read the **Java Virtual Machine** field, for example:

```bash
C:\Program Files\Cascade CMS\java\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
```

In this case the Java installation is at *C:\Program Files\Cascade CMS\java\jre*.

## Windows, from the command line

1. Navigate to the Cascade CMS installation directory.
1. View or edit the *cascade.bat* file.
1. Find the `JRE_HOME` variable near the top, for example:

```bash
set JRE_HOME=C:\Program Files\Cascade CMS\java\jre
```

## JVM details from inside the application

If your instance is running, you can read details about the JVM without touching the server:

1. Click **Administration**.
1. Click [Logs and System Information](https://www.hannonhill.com/cascadecms/latest/articles/cascade-administration/administration-tools/logs-and-system-information.html).
1. Click the **System Information** tab.
