CUC16 Session Spotlight: Reports in Cascade CMS

Yes, it’s time to start talking about this year’s Cascade User Conference! Our 11th annual conference will take place from September 18 to 21, 2016 in Atlanta, GA. It is the place to be if you’re a Hannon Hill customer. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn all about Cascade CMS, network with peers, get some one-on-one interaction with the Hannon Hill team, and have a lot of fun throughout.

We’re changing things up a little this time. For starters, the Cassie awards ceremony will be held at the historic Fabulous Fox Theatre. We’re also proud to announce a very special guest to deliver a keynote speech. Michelle Berryman, Managing Director, Strategy & Innovation at LiquidHub, will give a presentation highlighting user-centered design and brand strategy.

What about the presentations? There’ll be a great mixture of technical and non-technical sessions, so whether you’re a developer or content marketer, we’ve got you covered. We’ll have more presentations than ever, but unfortunately, we received so many speaker proposals that we were not able to get all of them on the schedule. However, we’re working with speakers on webinars, so stay tuned for pertinent announcements.

In the coming weeks, we will highlight some of the speaker sessions. Today we’ll kick things off by focusing on three sessions about creating reports in Cascade CMS.

T.P.S Reports with Cascade

Eric Epps of Sauk Valley Community College named his session “T.P.S. Reports with Cascade” (love the reference to the movie “Office Space”!). He will discuss how to use reporting tools, such as Argos to import data and create custom reports. Some of the reports that he will cover include importing data from Banner, assigning content owners and enforcing reviews, and an enhanced link check report.

Show me the data!

Leah Einecker, IT Systems Architect at Pima Community College, will host a session entitled “Custom Cascade Reports: Show Me the Data”. She will demonstrate how Pima developed their own reports, such as a list of assets editable by a given user and active workflows including current user/status. You will learn how you can unlock your data by adding custom report pages to Cascade.

Create Site Analysis Pages/Future Dashboard Widgets

Pete Thomas, Web Designer at SUNY Upstate Medical University, will show you how he uses a Velocity format and a web service program to create analysis pages for each site on a Cascade instance. You will learn how to create a page that acts as a program analyzing a site.

The goals of the analysis are:

  1. To make sure a site is adhering to one's web standards.
  2. To find common errors when migrating into or creating a new site in Cascade.
  3. To find content that low-permission users will have trouble updating.
  4. To (eventually) turn the code into widgets to be deployed on the dashboard for individual users.

Currently Upstate uses site analysis pages to display:

  1. Pages that are empty or missing essential information
  2. Capitalizations and spaces in URLs
  3. Hidden divs that only developers can edit
  4. Pages that have yet to be published since last modified
  5. Index pages not listed first in folder-order
