Elisabeth Hutzel, a Services Team Lead, has been with Hannon Hill for just over two years, and in that time has worked with about forty customers .  Using a variety of languages including HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Velocity, Elisabeth’s main role it to build out services projects for our customers websites inside Cascade CMS.

Let’s learn a little more about Elisabeth!

How did you first learn about Hannon Hill?

I had actually never heard of Hannon Hill or Cascade CMS before a recruiter suggested the job opening sounded like something I might be interested in.

Before working at Hannon Hill, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

I worked at a river tubing company: we put people in the river on inner tubes and made sure they got out at the stopping point, as well as a glorified fruit stand, petting zoo and novelty store combination.

How has Hannon Hill helped you in your career development?

I have learned so much working at Hannon Hill, not just in the CMS department either. I didn’t know any PHP and barely any Javascript before working on projects involving those languages. I have also learned a lot about REST API’s through projects using social media and Google calendar in clients’ websites.

I have also moved into to a leadership role on the Services team as one of two team leads, something that I didn’t think would happen so quickly in my career. A lot of responsibility has been added on my shoulders, but I have grown proportionally in learning to handle it.

What has been your favorite project at Hannon Hill?

That is a hard one! There have been so many clients that have been so great to work with! It is always enjoyable when a client shows genuine interest in their project, giving feedback and requests to help make their website become what they want it to be, but also accepting our own feedback in the best ways to handle certain things. Just to name a few of the more memorable projects, I would say working with Brandeis University + mStoner (designer) and Point Park University + New City (designer) have been great experiences.

What is your greatest achievement at Hannon Hill?

Probably the Social Media Mashup that is now available on the Cascade Exchange. Originally created for a client, I spent our last FedEx Day in April making it much better with all of the knowledge I have gained in the year since I wrote it. It is always a pleasure when I see a client using it or they ask for help implementing it, because then I know all my hard work is useful!

And now for some fun questions…

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.

My favorite sports are skiing and horseback riding, I enjoy baking and cooking (gluten, egg and dairy free due to allergies), and I am exceptionally clumsy.

If you could be anyone from any time period who would it be and why?

Probably somebody in the future. I have no idea who exactly, obviously, but I really like technology and it is only going to get better in the future.

What books are at your bedside?

I mostly read digital books so my metaphorical bedside bookshelf contains our HH Book Club book, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris and Coraline by Neil Gaiman. I am also rereading some of my favorite series in my spare time, The Green Rider by Kristen Britain and Redwall by Brian Jacques.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

Depends on how much I won, but probably a house.
