The great folks at the HighEdWeb Association put on a great conference every year. This year they outdid themselves with five enriching days of educational workshops, inspiring keynotes, and plenty of opportunities to network with other leaders in higher ed.

We had tons of fun in beautiful Hartford, CT. Here’s a look back at four moments that rocked at this year’s conference.

#HEWeb17 Happy Hour

We joined Beacon Technologies and about 150 of our closest friends at HighEdWeb for drinks and apps at Nix’s Hartford Kitchen. We enjoyed tasty snacks and great conversations as we learned more about our fellow #HEWeb17 attendees. We received great feedback from those that came out and we’re so looking forward to doing the same at next year’s conference in sunny California.

If you passed by our booth, you missed out on good, old-fashioned fun. For most of the conference, attendees entered to win a new Nintendo Switch. Many also took the opportunity to test drive the new gaming system by racing against each other in MarioKart. We tracked the results and crowned Zeb Gedney MarioKart king for crushing the competition with the fastest time in a single race.

Gedney earned a sleek trophy while our friends at Worchester  State U's Street Team were the lucky winners of the new system. Good times :)

The Sharing Science on Social Session

We loved Andrew Cassel’s session on how to incorporate science and research activities on social channels. This session was easily one of the most interesting ones we caught... and... [bonus] it examined a major opportunity for colleges and universities. Cassel encouraged organizations to move away from self-gratifying posts and toward the real-world scientific breakthroughs that can prepare students for the future. He offered lots of practical tips and cool examples that we can’t wait to see implemented at more organizations. Way to go Andrew!

Felicia Day

Remember that time Felicia Day inspired us all? O yeah, that was awesome. Felicia Day’s keynote address inspired us to embrace our differences and our mistakes. Day discussed her own journey to self-acceptance and how it’s helped her adjust to life in the spotlight. She was also super gracious and posed for pics with conference attendees. Here are a few of our favorites.
