We provide comprehensive training programs for both technical users and end users of the system. Here are some of your options.

This two day hands-on training covers everything you need to know to integrate your sites into Cascade CMS and provide system administration.

The number of participants in these trainings does not affect the price. However, we recommend keeping the number of attendees to less than 15 to ensure the best possible interaction with the trainer.

Target audience: Cascade Administrators or anyone responsible for integrating and maintaining sites in Cascade CMS. Please note that the workshop is not intended for end users.

Topics for the two-day training include, but are not limited to:
  • Cascade CMS Technical Basics
  • Creating Sites
  • Configuration Sets & Content Types
  • Metadata & Structured Data
  • Introduction to XML & Formats
  • Advanced Formats
  • Publishing
  • Introduction to Web Services
  • User Management
Choose the format that works best for you:
  • Onsite: We’ll bring the training to you

General Details

  • For 2018, workshops will be held in January, April, July and October, usually three workshops in a given week during each of those months.
  • Breaks do occur throughout the day, and participants are asked not to come in and out of the training if at all possible, as each step builds on the previous one.
  • The sessions will be conducted remotely, using GoToMeeting's conferencing software.
  • Confirmed participants will receive short, introductory videos of core Cascade CMS features prior to the training and are encouraged to watch them before training begins.
  • There will be a half-hour Q&A for those videos before training begins.

Training is strongly recommended for web developers and is not designed for end users. No previous knowledge of Cascade CMS is required; however, participants will be provided with a series of screen-captured videos to view prior to the workshop. In addition, participants should have the following:

  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS--participants do not have to be able to write code from scratch but will need a basic understanding of what different HTML tags mean
  • Participants are not required to have microphones, but may communicate with the trainer vocally when needed.

Twelve participants are allowed, with one organization permitted up to two people per session.

  • We maintain a rotating waitlist for individuals who do not make the date cut-off.
  • Workshop rosters will lock roughly a week before the workshop. In the case of the training being filled up, planning for the following month's training will begin.
  • Hannon Hill understands that unforeseen circumstances may emerge, but if a participant signs up for and does not attend two workshops in a row, he/she will not be permitted to participate for two months. Participants may cancel up to a week before the training.
  • All training sessions will be recorded and provided to all participants approximately 4-6 weeks after the training for future reference.

1. Can we modify the training for your organization?

No; we believe Cascade users should have a baseline level of experience in Cascade, and our format is tailored to hit that baseline. Experienced Cascade users may consider it a review if he/she already knows some of what will be covered. Custom training, however, is always available as needed.

2. Can we send more than two people to the training?

No, Hannon Hill wants to train as many organizations as possible each quarter. Additional users can sign up for the following training.

3. Can we share computers during training (like in a central room)?

Hannon Hill does not recommend this unless the other user is a business user that just wants to follow along with a technical user. Otherwise, our belief is that people learn best by doing.

4. What happened to the two-day training?

We've decided to compress our training to give more people an opportunity to participate. Workshops are now only a full day in length, combined with videos that can be watched at your leisure.

Training Agenda

Topics for the one-day training will include:

  • Overview of the Cascade 8 interface
  • Creating Templates & Blocks
  • Configuration Sets & Content Types
  • Metadata & Structured Data (Data Definitions)
  • Introduction to XML & Formats (Velocity)
  • Overview of Workflows

As part of our ongoing effort to improve client satisfaction, Hannon Hill is proud to offer our clients an additional training option. Cascade CMS customers now have the ability to engage in a small, online training session designed to cover a specific portion of our two-day training agenda in detail. The sessions will occupy two hours where advanced topics such as workflow, web services, velocity or XSLT formats could be covered.

These interactive Mini Training sessions are scheduled on a per-organization basis, and will allow for up to eight individuals to interact with the instructor and ask questions that will help tailor our predefined training material to their particular organization's needs.

Suggested Topics:

  • Workflow Basic (Straight Approval)
  • Workflow with Owner Review (Straight Approval with Owner Hold Step)
  • Workflow with Staging Review (above but with customized destinations & publish-working-copy)
  • XSLT Formats
  • Velocity Formats
  • Planning Site Structure
  • Writing Publish Triggers
  • Writing Asset Factory Plug-ins
  • Image Asset Best Practices (incl. lessons on existing AF plug-ins)
  • Integrating Google Analytics
  • WordPress Connector & Twitter Connector usage
  • Publishing Non-XML Dynamic Content (like JavaScript, JSON, PHP)
  • Optimization strategies
If you have specific topics (or a combination of topics) on which you would like to get trained, such as Workflow, Velocity, or Web Services, we offer training sessions customized to your needs. Depending on the depth of the topic that you would like us to cover, the training session may be between 2 and 8 hours. The training will be provided via a screen-sharing session, and will also be recorded for your convenience.

While most of our customers are very comfortable handling end user training in-house, we do offer customized end user training, which includes hands-on experience on your specific site or sites. We develop a custom curriculum based on your integration.

Format: If you expect the training to take more than one day, we will be happy to come on-site. Otherwise, we host the training via a screen-sharing session. We also record each session and make the videos available to you afterwards.
