Error occurred during FTP transport: Accept timed out

You may see the following error when attempting to publish to an FTP server:

Error occurred during FTP transport: Accept timed out

This is typically caused by the connection using Active mode rather than Passive mode when connecting to the target web server. To force Passive mode, edit the FTP Transport in question and check Use Passive FTP (PASV).
