Creating Assets

Assets are the elements that make up the pages to your site. They are stored in the Home area, and created by selecting New from the top navigation menu.

  1. Dreamweaver Template Converter
    The Import Dreamweaver Template function gives the content importer a clear way of bringing in existing Dreamweaver templates into Cascade Server.
  2. Folders
    A folder within the CMS is a way to group related assets.
  3. Blocks »
    A Block is a "pluggable " piece of content that can be easily substituted with or without styling into any page region.
    1. Index Blocks
      Index Blocks are typically used for creating dynamic navigation menus, site maps, indices, etc.
    2. XML Blocks
      An XML block is a reusable piece of content stored as well-formed XML.
    3. XML Feed Blocks
      An XML Feed Block is a block whose XML content is pulled from a web location.
    4. XHTML Blocks
      An XHTML Block is a great way to reuse content across multiple pages.
    5. Text Block
      Text Blocks are used when there is a need to reuse plain text content.

    All pages are based on templates, which provide the HTML structure for the page.

    3. System Regions
      In order to insert content into a template, you must add System Regions. These regions are written into the template to indicate to the system where to place various content blocks.

    There are several ways to use CSS in the CMS.
  6. Stylesheets (XSL)
    Stylesheets are used to format reusable content blocks.
  7. Pages
    Most often, pages are created using custom asset factories, however, pages can be created entirely from scratch.
  8. Files
    A File is considered any sequence of bits stored on the server's database as a single unit.
