Publish Queue Reordering
Digest
Publish Queue Reordering allows publish jobs that have not yet started to be dynamically re-ordered by Managers and Administrators using drag and drop reordering.
A System Preference (found under the General tab, set by an Administrator) is used to set a minimum role as to who may reorder publish jobs – Manager, Administrator, or none (‘none’ disables drag and drop altogether). Administrators and Managers may reorder any job in the queue. Administrators continue to be the only users who can cancel publish jobs.
Concept
More Insight into Publsih Queue Reordering
The publishing queue features two sections: one that shows the job currently publishing (which cannot be moved), and another that shows jobs in queue (which can be moved).
Reordered publish jobs will be placed directly above the ‘anchor’ (the job directly below the point that the job is being dragged to, or the bottom of the list if the job is dragged there).
Previously, certain publish jobs were not visible to certain Users if they did not have read access rights to those jobs. Now, ALL publish jobs in the publish queue are displayed and visible to all Users. Jobs that a User does not have access rights to will be displayed as plain text, and jobs that a User does have access rights to will be linked.
The publish queue is no longer sortable by job name. It will always display publish jobs in the order in which they are to be processed. After a reorder, other Users will view the new order of publish jobs only after the publish status screen refreshes.
Error messages may be displayed:
- If a User attempts to move a job that has become the ‘current’ job before the publish status page refreshes.
- The ‘anchor’ job is not found, which may happen if the anchor job refers to a publish job that was deleted by another User and the publish status screen has not been refreshed yet.
- The publish job being re-ordered cannot be found, which may happen if the publish job being moved has been deleted by another User, but the publish status screen has not refreshed yet.
