Spell Checker

Digest

The spell checker, much like the accessibility checker and the link checker, is invoked after a page edit is committed by clicking the 'Submit' button. If there are any words that the CMS deems suspect, the user is forwarded to a 'Spell Checker' page listing the errors sorted by the field on the page in which they occur. The Spell Checker checks and reports all words (content + metadata) that are not found in the system's dictionary.

Concept

Introduction to the Spell Checker

For each error, the user is presented with a link (so that the user can see the error in context), and radio buttons offering four options:

  1. Change To - This allows a 'change to' either a most-likely value as determined by the spell checker or a user-supplied alternative.

  2. Suggested - This allows the user to choose from a list of possible replacements suggested by the spell checker.

  3. Ignore - This allows the user to disregard the error altogether. This is the default option.

  4. Add - This allows the user to disregard the error AND add the term to the dictionary.

PLEASE NOTE- These errors must be dismissed or corrected as appropriate before the page is saved.

Once selections have been made for each error, the system makes the appropriate changes and forwards the user either to the next enabled checker or back to the layout view of the asset.

The spell checker is typically turned on or off, system-wide, by an administrator. Depending on a user's permissions, the checker may be turned on or off at the asset level (under the System options) as well.

When turned on, the spell checker is invoked after a page edit is committed by clicking the ' Submit' button. If there are any words that the CMS deems suspect, you will be forwarded to a 'Spell Checker' page listing the errors sorted by the field on the page in which they occur.

Using the In-Line Spell Checker

Much as you are used to using the standard spell-checker in your word processing software, Cascade also allows users spell-check content in-line. This option is useful if your system administrator does not have the spell-check feature turned on system-wide.

Simply highlight any and all text you’d like spell-checked and click the Spell-Check icon:

And any misspelled or questionable words will be highlighted with a red underline:

Turning Spell Checker On & Off Globally (Administrators and Managers)

Spell-checking can be turned on and off globally (system-wide) by an Administrator. This can be done by navigating to Tools -> Preferences -> Content

Under the section “Default Data Checks,” check the “Spell Check” checkbox to enable, or uncheck to disable. Then press “Submit” at the bottom of the page to save the changes.
